This is umbrella for information, services and open source software resembles tracking-free, independent and ad-free experience of using the global network - the internet. 
In general this resource tries to return internet usage experience to the old good known times e.g. without monopoly of different incompatible services, but with a tuning to use modern technology and new capabilities of resources. 

===== Service and project status =====
  * 2021-03-20: ekodu's services under testing and development phase, expected start date 2021-06
  * 2021-05-06: service's starting date postponed to 2021-07

At the moment the basics needs should be covered in order to threw big brother's services away:
  * Personal privacy-aware email (registration is going without phone numbers, many-steps authentication and verification (that's usually require to show your utility payments scans or something else like this))
  * Personal instant messaging (+voice calls) account (going with email mentioned early)
  * Calendar and contacts sync for your phone and desktop

==== How to get it ? ====
There are two available methods:
  * Run your own instance of [[getting started with your own service|services]] (compatible with others)
  * Register [[ekodu service information|here]] to get it for [[terms of use|free]] ([[service invitation system|invite]] only)

==== Platforms support ====
In order to get a modern connectivity a new protocols, social networking, 100th innovative messenger are not required, to do so the already implemented and time-proven technology could be used:
  * IMAP/SMTP + a lot of modern mail clients
  * XMPP + clients of your choice
  * CardDav/CalDav + clients (i.e. in case of apple's devices those two are supported by OS itself)
There are a few ones used, see the further information about them.

That's all means every common desktop (windows, linux/*bsd, apple) and every common smartphone (android, apple, [[support:notes-about-blackberry|blackberry]]) are well supported. Going further - you can choose the software you like.

==== Advantages ====
Using your own services or ekodu's provided has the following points:
  * No tracking (services not collects your data, i.e. whatsapp collects all your private data such as location, voice and environment samples at predefined time, contacts and even the keys to decrypt your messages, web site visits)
  * Ad free (ekodu is non-profit project, your own service is running by you - so, you're in charge to ignore ads)
  * More privacy (unlike the google ekodu service isn't able (and don't want) to read a numerous mail messages, to build a person's profile based on private info etc ... ) - and finally you don't need to provide your phone number (i.e. in Germany is not allowed to get a mobile sim without identity card/passport)
  * Less energy consumption - services are simple, lightweight, a modern social media/messaging apps are drying your battery to track and spy on you - and that's more then 50% of power consumption.
